Blake E. Zimmerman, Ph.D.

I am Co-Founder of 4D Surgical and I passionate about leveraging
medical imaging, robotics, and AI to find solutions for clincally-driven problems.

About Blake

Hey! My name is Blake Zimmerman and I am a Co-Founder at 4D Surgical where we are working to build a new paradigm in image-guided procedures. Previously, I contributed through postdoctoral research at the Utah Center for Advanced Imaging Research (UCAIR) and the Scientific Computing and Imaging (SCI) Institute. I am constantly intrigued by new problems and novel machine learning applications to provide user-driven solutions to these new problems.

Selected Projects

Throughout my career I have had several opportunities to work with multi-disciplinary groups to apply computer programming, machine learning, and mathematics to clinically targeted biomedical applications. The following are a few of the projects I have been fortunate to lead and collaborate on.

Whole Body Segmentation Visualization

Highlight video to communicate company strategic objectives and capabilities at Q Bio

CAMP Repository

Computational Anatomy and Medical imaging using PyTorch (CAMP) software package.

MR to Histology Registration Workflow

End-to-end workflow to register microscopic images to in vivo MR imaging to validate quantitative MR imaging biomarkers for treatment assessment.

UTE to CT Contrast Conversion

Using deep learning to estimate computed tomography (CT) images from ultra-short TE (UTE) MRI images.

Multi-Parametric MR Treatment Assessment

Using machine learning to leverage the information available in multi-parametric MR imaging for more accurate MR assessment of focused ultrasound thermal therapies.

3D Lung Motion Estimation

Increasing radiotherapy accuracy during free breathing by using deep learning and principal component analysis to estimate 3D lung tumor position from a singular 2D radiograph.
